Krasnoyarsk, the city of Marina's birth

Krasnoyarsk is a large Russian city in central Siberia. It has a population of about 1 million people. The city itself was closed to foreigners up until 10 years ago. It is a five hour plane ride from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk. The pictures of Marina were taken in her orphanage on the day we met. Marina's orphanage was located in Achinsk, a Russian mining town. Achinsk was a two hour car ride from Krasnoyarsk. Marina was one of Tatiana's favorite kids. We are very grateful to all the wonderful people who helped us while we were in Russia but I am especially grateful to Tatiana and the rest of the orphanage staff for doing the best they could with what they had and taking such great care of Marina during her first two years of life.
